THE

DESIGN

This coffee sleeve was created to reduce waste from packaging. Originally, the idea was to create a carrying tray for coffee or tea, that could be reused as a herb garden. After a lot of trial and error, and even attempting to make moulded pulp from recycled paper, this little coffee sleeve was born.

Inside the sleeve, you will find seeds, and printed instructions on how to grow them. A lot of small businesses want to make the switch to green cups, however often times they are much too expensive for businesses to justify. Unfortunately the coating on other kinds of cups, makes them unable to be recycled. By using this coffee sleeve on cups that can’t be recycled, consumers are encouraged to reuse their cup as a place to grow their herbs. Once you’re done with the sleeve, you can keep it on the cup as a label, or it can be recycled. .

While the focus of this project was on the shape and use of the packaging, and not on the design itself, I still took a lot of time to create these herb graphics, as well as a logo for “Bean and Leaf”, a place that does not exist.
